DESCRIPTION: Kelvin & James White Ltd, Glasgow, marine chronometer with 56-hour winding indicator, mounted within original gimbaled brass tub and three-tier brass bound mahogany box with signed front plaque, inset handles, silvered dial of approximately 4 inch diameter signed "Kelvin & James White 16 & 18 Cambridge St. Glasgow, Auxiliary Compensation," KWKS, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, free-sprung bi-metallic compensation balance with blued steel helical hairspring, spotted pattern gilt damascene, s#7159 with matching serial number within tub and to box plaque. This Kelvin & White 2-day marine chronometer is fitted with Poole's middle temperature error corrections. Selections from the collection of Tom McIntyre. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, ample spotting and loss of gilding to plates; excellent dial with light spotting and light fine scratches; fine gold hands with light spotting; excellent tub and gimbals with light wear to gilt finish; box has been professionally restored with a new top lid created, box shows light wear, gilt brass hardware with light spotting and wear to brass, light fine scratches on surfaces.
